Who is AIIU?
The Australian Institute of International Understanding is a not for profit organisation promoting friendship and understanding among people of different races, cultures and backgrounds.

Through our educational and cultural student exchange programs, AIIU strives to contribute to the creation of a more well-balanced and harmonious global community.

A nation-wide organisation, AIIU has its National office in Brisbane. Regional Managers are located in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong and Perth.

AIIU is registered with the Education Department in all states.

AIIU has a variety of cultural Student Exchange programs that allow young Australians to experience Japan. These can range from short-term educational and cultural tours, to term, semester or 10 month Student Exchange programs where young Australians become immersed in the language and culture of Japan.

An important part of our mission as an organisation is to provide scholarships to Australian High School students to allow them to undertake study in Japan. Each year these scholarships help students to realise their ambitions of becoming an exchange student.

Since 1987 AIIU has been conducting homestay cultural and language programs across Australia. These programs involve foreign students from primary and high schools and universities. Approximately 3,000 overseas students participate in  these programs each year, giving students the opportunity to experience the culture of Australia first hand. These programs also provide Australians with an opportunity to bring another country into their homes through hosting an overseas exchange student.

  Mission Statement
